INTRODUCTION
Drug and alcohol abuse are important problem that affect school – age youth at earlier age than in the past . Youth people frequently being to experiment with alcohol , tobacco, and other drug during the middle school years , with a smaller number starting during elementary school. By the time students are in high school, rate of substance use are remarkable high According to national survey data about on in three twelfth graders reports being drunk or binge drinking in the past thirty days . Many educators recognized that drug and alcohol abuse among students are significant barrier to the achievement of educational objectives . Further more , federal and state agencies and local school districts frequently mandate that school provide health education classes to students, including content on drug alcohol abuse .
Substance abuse is not a school centered problem but one that impact the entire community . To effect change , institutions of higher education knowledge the need to from committees and coalitions , comprised of administration , students , parents , faculty , alumni , school are tightening , regulations strengthening academic requirement , adjusting course scheduling and offering excellent hours for library and recreational facilities , while providing alternative alcohol- free school sponsored activates .
Risk of drug abuse increases greatly during risk of drug abuse increase greatly during time of transition . I n early adolescents hen children advance from elementary through middle school , they face new and challenging social and academic situation . When they entire high school , teens may encounter greater availably of drugs , drug use by older teens , and social activates where drug are used .
The term research based means that these programmed have been rationally designed based on current scientific evidence , rigorously tested and show to produce positive results. Scientific have developed a broad range of programmed that positively alter the balance between risk and protective factor for drug abuse in families , schools and communities.
By the time they are seniors, almost 70 % of high school students will have tried alcohol , half will have taken an illegal drug , nearly 40% will have used a prescription drug for a non medical purpose . There are many reasons adolescent use these substance , including the desire for new experience , an attempt to deal with problems or perform better in school , and simple peer pressure . Many factors influenced whether an high school students tries drugs , including the availability of drug within the neighborhood ,
Global increase in problems of illicit drug both reflect and contribute to international tensions. The origins of some of these tensions are clear rapid changes in political alignment , reduced family and community cohesiveness’, increased unemployment and under employment , economic and social marginalization and increased crime. Environment damage related to drug can be caused in essential three ways , clearing of forests or land , growth and cultivation of plants and processing of harvested plants in to drugs . Information dissemination is the most commonly used approach to drug and alcohol. Some information dissemination approaches attempt to dramatize the danger of drug abuse by using fear – arousal technique designed to attract attention and frighten individuals in to not using drugs, accompanied by vivid portrayals of the sever adverse consequences of drug abuse . It include classroom lecture about danger of abuse , as well as educational pamphlets and other printed martial’s and short film that impart information to Sundance about different type of drugs and the negative consequents of use . Some programmed have police officers come into the classroom and discussed law
enforcement issue , including drug – related crime and penalties for buying or possessing illegal drugs. Other programmers use doctors or other health professional to talk about severs , often irreversible health effect of drug use . Evaluation studies of information approaches to drug and alcohol abuse a temporary impact on knowledge and anti drug attitudes can occurred . It has became increasing clear that the etiology of drug and alcohol abuse is complex , and prevention strategies that really primarily on the information dissemination are not effective in changing behavior.
The social resistance approach is based on a conceptualization of adolescence drug abuse as resulting from pro- drug social influence from peers persuasive advertising appeal , and media portrayals encouraging drug use , along with exposure to drug using role models. These resistance skill programmed focus on skill training to increase students resistance to negative social influence to engage in drug use , particularly peer pressure.
Environment damage related to drug can be caused in essential three ways : clearing of forest or land , growth and cultivation of plants and processing of harvested plants in to drugs. The type of environment damage found in any country will depend plants or chemical substance in to drugs , or do process plants or chemical substance in to drugs , or do both.
Since coca growth wants to avoid police and military detection , they select remote and difficult terrain to clear . According to recent report , “ coca farmers cut down forests on steep hillside to erosion , instead of expanding cultivation of rich alluvial soil on the valley floors” . An expert from Peru’s National Agrarian University , state that coca cultivation may have resulted in deforestation of 700,000 hectors in the Amazon region . Opium poppy cultivation has historically taken place in south East Asia , where hill tribe farmers have cleared enormous amounts of rain forest to support their slash and bum growth has taken place outside south East and south West Asia . Another form of damage to environment caused by growers of coca and opium results from the improper disposal of toxic waste created during the processing of the plants material into a consume drug.
Historically drug control and drug abuse consideration were not often viewed as issued of primary concern for development planners , even in the context of programmed following a basic needs strategy . This is because many development assistance programmed were devoted either to promoting economic growth or to some aspect of basic needs of the population to inter alia health or education . The economic costs of drug abuse can be categorized as direct and indirect . Direct costs involving increased costs of police , courts , military , treatment programmers, welfare payments to drug addict and their family , as well as increased security measures by business . Indirect economic costs include the displacement of legal industries ; diminished control over the economy ; spending money for drug and inappropriate use of money gained from drug sales ; and fiscal problems related to the inability to the tax the drug economy .
Alcohol consumption could be an important determinant of how much a high school students learn without having a strong impact on his or her decision to stay in school or attend college . This question is fundamental and timely , given recent research showing that underage drinkers are subsection to the immediate consequent of alcohol use , including blackouts, hangovers, and alcohol poisoning and are at elevated risk of neurodegeneration , impairment in functional brain activates and neurocognitive defects . A common and comprehensive measures of high school students . Learning is grade point average (GPA) .GPA is an important outcome because it is a key determinant of college admisssion decision and of job quality for those who do not attend college. Only a few studies have explore the association between alcohol use and GPA. Wolver (2002) and William , Powell, and Wechsler(2003) have investigated the effects of underage drinking on GPA during high school. The latter study found a negative association between high school drinking and grades , although it is not clear whether the effects are casual or the result of unobserved heterogeneity.
Understanding the relationship between teenage drinking and high school grades is pertinent given the high prevalence of alcohol use among this age cohort and recent research on adolescents brain development suggesting that early heavy alcohol use may have negative effects. By affecting the quality of learning , underage drinking could have an impact on both college admissions an job quality independent of its effect on years of schooling or school completion .

Report of an awareness program on “CURRENT CHALLENGES FACING THE SECONDARY SCOOLS: DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE” in GOVT H.S.S POOVAR school.
On 12 th December 2017 conducted the awareness program. I have organized this program on the occasion of students counseling day . The main purpose of this program was to create awareness among the students and parents regarding DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE home and family and its consequences. Under this program, all of the students of VIII and IX Standards and their parents participate. Teachers played an essential part of this occasion. As a part of this program I had counseled the students and parents. The school counseling teacher observed the whole program and gave us adequate guidance.
Our HEAD MISTRESS commence the program at the SMART room. This program was inaugurated by the headmistress with a few words about the topic. The teacher and students were interesting followed suit. Some of the students have careless attitude followed in the occasion. But some of students are very care fully and followed my instructions and information.
After the campaign , our headmistress delivered the speech telling us the USE OF DRUG AND ALCOHOL children in the home and family.
