INTRODUCTION

       The present study aims at studying the effects of social media among adolescents in learning programme.This general aim is expressed in the specific objectives which are to find the level of effect of social media on studies of the adolescent and with respect to their gender.Data were collected from the high school students of Gov.H.S Kanjiramkulam and P.K.S.H.S.S Kanjiramkulam by administrating through questionnaire.The data collected were scored as per the scoring key of the tool and the personal information were coded in the table excel form .The arranged data were analysed by using various statistical techniques of data are given below.

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION
According to Best(1997)statistics is a body of mathematical techniques used or process of gathering,organizing,analysing and interpreting numerical data.Statistics is a basic tool of measurement,evaluation and research It is used to describe the numerical data that are gathered.Statistical data describe group behavior or group characteristics abstracted from a number of individuals observation which are combined to make a generalization possible.Simpson and kofika (1969)states that,"The word statistics today refers either to quantitative information or  to a method of dealing with quantitative information of qualitative information".
        Analysis of data means studying the tabulated material in order to determine inherent facts or mean.According to Kendal,statistical analysis is the science collecting,analysing and interpreting the numerical data and it is one of the basic steps of research process.It involves breaking down existing complex factors into simple parts and putting the parts together in new arrangement for the purpose of interpretation.Analysis involves estimating the values of unknown parameters of the population and testing of hypothesis for drawing inference.In this chapter the investigator has used Mean,percentage and standard deviation for the purpose of analysis.
                     The present study has been designed with  adolescents in learning programme as dependent variable effects of social media considered as independent  variables.The tools validated by a group of subject experts and also it is administered on a sample of 60 students in the schools of thiruvananthapuram district.The data thus obtained were analysed by using appropriate statistical techniques. The details of the analysis are presented below under the following major heads;


Review balance

Kim (2009)conducted a study on role of international students are support through internet and social networking sites.Specially for particular international students which are using their internet for building new relationship also for and the other students using the internet in their host country.To develop new relationship with students they also used new technologies from their country.Rather than focus on build and maintain relationships,primary goal of students was to meet academic needs.This research's major focus on using internet as a whole.


KUPPASWAMY AND SHANKAR NARAYAN(2010) conducted a study to assess the impact of social networking on the education of youth.The study argues that the social networking website distract student from there study,but it can useful for educational basis,said pedagogical principles and proper supervision by teachers.The sample size was 80.The study concludes that these sites have both positive and negative impact on education.

JUNCO,HEIBERGERT AND LONKENET(2011) A study is conducted on 132 students inorder to examine the relationship of social media and grades of students.To examine this relationship the students were divided into two groups,one groups use twitter and other group not use twitter account.It was used to make discussion about the study material,organize the study groups in a manner,also post the announcement of class fellows .Junco and his co-workers(2011)surprised that the students of Twitter group achieve greater GPAS and higher scores than the other groups.


HYLLEGARD(2011) examine the study on using of social networking sites among students,he examine by online mailing online questionnaires to respondents that the person having smart phones are the most frequent users of social networking sites and have easy access to these sites.More over it showed that junior and senior students are more interesting to use Twitter,linked In and read blogs.Twitter and linked In having more resulting by older students to communicate and sharedinformation and materials with their friends and the younger are frequent user of facebook for their different activities while usage of media have no negative effect on students graders.

AHMAD(2011) conducted a study on advantages of social networking sites for their users.Their study shows that social networking sites have number of advantages.It enable the community to keep in touch with their peers and relink with old ones and help to find new friends according to your interest from all round and a large number of persons are linking with these networks .Hence the network of social media is growing globally.


LIN(2011) conducted a study on facebook outcomes.Lin focusing on a study conducted primarily on the facebook outcomes.Which are used by international students in the USA.The sample size was 200.The researchers found that facebook usage contributed to students ability to participate socially and culturally in their new environment.It is founded in a survey that out of the international students 46% students point put a social media site.

JUNCO(2011)conducted study on the use of facebook in developing public engagement.It is founded that when facebook groups allow the students to do political or public engagement,rather than using social networking website for social contribution.Students are using these sites for public involvement.This perception is carry by Junco study,where it was originated that students use facebook cause other than to socialize.Information collecting and information sharing activities make up a time to spend on facebook for students.students which use facebook more for data sharing and collecting activities get high grades than those who used it for socializing.This evidence suggest that student use facebook for study activities however it is positive or not.

COYN(2011) conducted a study to assess how social media affect relationship.The objective of the study is to examine the difference between relationship online and offline.He use questionnaire method for data collection.The sample size was 200.The study concludes that offline relationship is stronger than online relationship.

SHAMBARE(2012)conducted a study on social networking habits among students.Their study indicates that social media are commonly used by youngsters and facebook is most widely using by a large number of communities and have multiple effects on students life.The sample size was 200.The high speed and quickly approach to internet and the development of smart phone technology are most important drivers behind the adoption and connectivity with social networking website and concludes that social networking sites(SNS)enhance their knowledge level.

ZINGER WANG,WEICHEN AND XULIANG(2012) conducted a study to assess the effect of social media on college students.They use random sampling method.The sample size was 48.Results indicates most college student use social media and spend many hours for checking social media site.There was a negative effect on college students while using social media.

THEONE WHITNEY SUE(2012) conducted a study on knowledge regarding impact of social networking on college students.The purpose of the study is to find the positive and negative effect of social networking on college students.Study was conducted in students age from 17 to 23.They use pretest and post test method.The sample size was 200.The students got 95%of knowledge after post test.


HENG LI YANG AND TANG(2013)conducted a study on the topic effect of social network on students performance.The objective of the study is to find the effects of social network on students performance.The study was conducted in Taiwan.The sample size was 40.These samples are empirically tested how social network related to students performance.They use questionnaire.Result shows that social media has both positive and negative impact on students performance.

LENHART(2015)conducted a study on the topic of mobile phone among youngsters.He conducted the study on young people.The objective of the study is to find out the use of mobile phone among young people and negative impact from social networking site.The study was conducted on American young people between age of12 to 17 regarding their use of mobile phone.The Sample size was 800. The study results shows that they have negative impact from social networking site.

2.Experimental method
3.Normative survey method


NORMATIVE SURVEY METHOD
The survey approach is the most commonly used approach in the educational field.This method is used for collecting and analysing data obtained from a large cross section of the population and it is collected with the help of a detailed scale or interview.This method involves interpretation,comparison,measurement,evaluation and generalization.For the present study the investigator used survey method for collecting data.


TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES

Tools and techniques employed as a measure to gather new facts of to explore new fields (John W Best).Different types of data collection use different types of tools.
             For the present study a personal data sheet along with a questionnaire was used.The personal data sheet contained details of name,sex,age,class,name of the school and locate of the school.

SAMPLE SELECTED FOR THE STUDY
     A sample of 60 high school students of 2 schools of Thiruvananthapuram district were selected to find the effects of social media among adolescents in learning programme respect to sex,age,class location of schools.Distribution of sample is given  in table;







ADMINISTRATION OF TOOLS

After getting the permission from the Head of the Institution,the investigator personally administered the questionnaire to the students of various schools.Before distributing the questionnaire clear instructions were given.The questionnaire was given to 60 students that include 30 male and 30 female students.Finally 60 were analysed.

CONSOLIDATION OF DATA

The data was analyzed by using the following statistical techniques.

3.STANDARD DEVIATION


MEAN
       Mean is the simplest measurement of central tendency and is a widely used measure.It's chief use consists in summarizing the essential features of series and enabling data to be compared.It is more stable and suitable for further calculations.


   



N=The total number of students
X=The arithmetic mean
   =The sum of the series of scores obtained by total number of students





STANDARD DEVIATION
        It is widely used measures of dispersion of a series and is defined as the square root of average squares of deviations,when such deviations for the values of individual items in a series are obtained from the arithmetic average.It is least affected by sampling fluctuations.

PERCENTAGE


     In mathematics, a percentage is a number or ratio expressed as a fraction of 100. Review

Mohamed El Kaoli(2000)conducted a study on the topic Effect of social media.The objective of the study is to assess the most important negative aspect of using social media affecting family stability in Abu dabi.
The sample size was 127.The investigator used  random sampling method.The result shows that the negative impact of family are abuse these sites by some teen causing isolation of children,publishing photo,video and article that be abusingcustoms,religion and tradition.
Rajeev.M.M(2000) conducted a study on the topic"effect of social media on social relationship".The study conducted among youth population.The main objective of the study is to find the effect of social media on social relationships.The sample size of the study was 50.The investigator used random sampling method for the study.The study highlight the vast scope of social media in the development aspect.The result shows that social media improve social relationships.

According to Best (1977)"A brief summary of previous research and the writing of the recognized experts provided evidence that the research is familiar with the what is already known and what is still unknown and untested .A familiarity with literature in any problem areas helps the students to discover that is already known what others have attempted to find out".
Review literature in research refers to extensive,exhaustive and systematic survey publication relevant to the selected fields of investigation.The process of literature review begins even before the stage of defining the research topic or problem and continues till publication of the research report.The terms 'review'means to organize the knowledge of that the proposed study would be an addition to this field.Literature refers to the knowledge of a particular area of investigation of any discipline which includes theoretical,practical and it's research studies.This review of literature refers to the key to the vast store house of published literature may open doors to sources of significance problems,explanatory hypothesis,provide helpful orientation for definition of the problem,background for selection of research.In order to be creative and original one must read extensively and critically as a stimulus to thinking.

A review of literature is a written summary of existing knowledge on a research problem.The task of review of literature involves the identification,selection of critical and written description of existing information on a topic.

     Education is the process by which people acquire knowledge,skills,habits,values or attitudes.The word ' education' is also used to describe the results of educational process.Education should help people become useful member of the Society.It should also help them to develop an appreciation in their cultural heritage and satisfying lives.
       Education involves both teaching and learning.Sometimes people learn by teaching themselves.Parents are the child's  and perhaps most important teachers.They teach their children attitudes,habits and values that help to shape their character and remain with them throughout life.
      Education is important because it helps people get more out of life.It increases their knowledge and understanding of the world.Education also help people to adjust with change.This benefit has become increasingly important because social change today takes place with increasing speed and affect the life of more people.Education can help a person understand his chance and provide the like for adjusting them.
    Nowadays in addition to consuming the old media ,such as T V,children and adolescents also spent a lot of time on new types of media.The concerns for the adolescents are increasing in this regard.Some issues related to these concerns include the effect of the media on violence,violent behaviors and crimes sexual relationship educational performance body image,drug abuse and smoking,alcohol abuse,food preference and change in the conversational language structure.
     Some media authorities believe social media is a popular means of interaction for adolescents and Young adult,in which they create,share and exchange information in virtual communities and networks.Social media allows participants to be the creators and consumers of content and is then discussed.modified and shared.The platforms for social networking sites(facebook),internet forums blogs ,micro blogs(Twitter),photograph or video sharing etc.
   Social media platforms enable to create and engage communities online.Growing by attraction,these communities connect ever greater members of like-minded people who people who share opinions,ideas and information of interest with one another.
    The internet holds a vast array of information.The educational resources delivered on web pages are often very informative and useful for online students in nearly every topic of study.The internet is useful in helping students both construct and share their knowledge The use of internet technology by online communities may provide mobile learning resources in synchronous or asynchronous modes.
     E-learning aims to deliver instruction to students not present in the classroom.It provide assess to learning resources when the instructor and students are separated by time,distance or both.

We hande over our attendance register, evaluation paper and permission letter to Headmisters. I met my subject teachers, they were co-operative.

I reached the school at 9.30 am. Signed the attendance register. After prayer I had a class in VIII.B. Today I started in a new chapter. Students were co-operative. After that I engaged in own activities like writing records, prepare learning materials and next topic notes. At 4.00 pm we left back home.

I reached the school at 9.30 am. Then I signed the register and entered into our room. In the third period I had a class in VIII.B. I asked some questions related to the taught in previous class. At 4.00 pm, bell rang and we left back home.

I reached the school at 9.30 am. I signed the register and I entered into the room. Today the Christmas exam started in our school. Students came early. Some classes had exam on morning and some of them have exam in the afternoon section.

I reached the school at 9.30 am. After the prayer I signed the register and I entered into the room. On the morning session, the first period I had class in VIII.B. I used the free time for writing records.

I reached the school at 9.30 am. Signed the attendance register and entered into the room. In the third period, I had a class on VIII.B. In the fourth period, I had a class on VIII.A. At 12.30 pm we ate lunch. After that, I engaged in my own activities. At 4.00 pm, bell rang and we went to home

DAY -1 21/6/2017 Wednesday
Today started my teaching practice at G.V.H.S.S.Poovar School. I reached the school at 9 am. I and my four friends – Monisha Mary, lizy from Natural Science option, Shiji.v.s and Jini Mol from social science option went to the office room. We saw the school headmistress. We gave our attendance register, evaluation paper and permission letter to headmistress. Teacher gave warm welcome to us. Then opened a room for us. We entered the room. I am very thrilled and happy. We met with our subject teachers, they were co-operative. My teacher name is Beena. Today I got an opportunity to take class in VIII.B at first period. In first period I entered the class and I introduced them. I started chapter “Earth Secret”. I left back at 3.30 pm.

DAY – 2 22/6/2017 Thursday
I reached the school at 9.15 am. I signed the register and entered into the room. Assembly started at 9.30 am. Today I had class during first period in VIII.B. First period I entered the class, after them a good rapport with them. I gave notes and explanations based on the lesson. Students listened carefully. I had class during second period in VIII.A.

I reached the school at 9.00 am. I signed the register and entered into the room. Today I had class during first period in VIII.B. I taught in rocks. Students were listened carefully. After three holidays I go to the school with great pleasure. I reached the school at 9.15 am. Today I got an opportunity to take class in VIII.B at first period, VIII.A at fourth period. I gave notes for the students. During free time I done my own works and prepared for the next day’s classes. At 12.45 pm we ate lunch. It was a rainy day. I left at 3.30 pm from the school.

I reached the school at 9.00 am. I signed the register and entered into the room. I got two classes-VIII.A, VIII.B to teach. Today I got an opportunity to take class in VIII.B at first period, VIII.A at third period . I taught about Weathering. At 3.30 pm, bell rang and we left back home.

DAY – 6 29/6/2017 Thursday
I reached the school at 9.15 am. I signed the register, and then entered in to the room. Assembly started at 9.30 am. Today I had four periods. But due to the pending of portion, I had taken the first period also at class VIII.B. In the second period, I had a class on VIII.A. At 12.30 pm, we ate lunch. Afternoon section I had a class on VIII.E. At 3.30 pm we went to home.

I reached the school at 9.15 am. After the assembly, I signed the register and entered into our room. In the first and second period, I had class on VIII.B. I signed the student’s works. At 12.30 pm we ate our lunch. At 3.30 pm, we left back to home.

I reached the school at 9.00 am. Signed the attendance register. After prayer I go to take the VIII.B class. I taught about perishing the soil. I use chart and other materials. After that I had no classes. At 12.45 pm I had lunch. Sixth period I had class in VIII.A. At 3.30 pm left from school.

I reached the school at 9.00 am. Signed the attendance register. After prayer I had a class in VIII.B. Today I started in a new chapter. Students were co-operative. After that I engaged in own activities like writing records, prepare learning materials and next topic notes. At 3.35 pm we left back home.

DAY-10 5/7/2017 Wednesday
I reached the school at 9.15 am. Then I signed the register and entered into our room. In the first period I had a class in VIII.B. I asked some questions related to the taught in previous class. At 3.30 pm, bell rang and we left back home.

I reached the school at 9.15 am. I signed the register, and then entered in to the room. Today I had two periods .I had taken the first period also at class VIII.B. In the second period, I had a class on VIII.A. At 12.30 pm, we ate lunch. At 3.30 pm we went to home.

After that I engaged in own activities like writing records, prepare learning materials and next topic notes. At 3.35 pm we left back home.

I reached the school at 9.15 am. Signed the attendance register and entered into the room. In the first period, I had a class on VIII.B. Today students were wrote their notes. In the third period, I had a class on VIII.A. I conduct the test paper. Students wrote the exam. At 12.30 pm we ate lunch. After noon section I had no class. I engaged in my own activities. At 3.30 pm, bell rang and we went to home.

I taught about function of parliament. At 3.30 pm bell was rang. After that I go back to home even after students went to home.

I reached the school at 9.00 am. Today had an assembly. It was a sad day. Because a boy died in this day. We pray for one minute. The headmistress announced leave to the students. But we had no leave. At 12.30 pm we ate our lunch. We engaged our own works. At 2.00 pm, we left back to home.

I reached the school at 9.15 am. After the prayer I signed the register and I entered into the room. In the morning section, the first period I had class in VIII.B. At 12.30 pm we ate lunch. After noon section I corrected the notebooks of some students. At 3.30 pm we went to home.

I taught in Ancient Tamikam. Students carefully listened. At 12.30 pm, we ate lunch. Afternoon section I had a class on VIII.E. At 3.30 pm we went to home.

I asked some question related to the Ancient Takilkam. After that I had no class, that time I engaged in own activities. At 12.40 pm, I ate lunch. After that I go back to home even after students went to home.

I reached the school at 9.00 am with set sari. Because today is chingam 1.Then I entered into the room. After the prayer, I signed the register. Today I had two periods .In the first period; I had a class on VIII.B. In the second period, I had a class on VIII.A. At 12.30 pm, we ate lunch. I and my friends take some photos. At 3.30 pm we went to home.

I reached the school at 9.00 am. Today there was assembly in the school. After that I signed the register and entered into the room. In the first and second period I had class in VIII.B. I conducted revision in this class and checked notebooks. After the interval, the third period I had class in VIII.A. I conducted revision in this class and checked notebooks. At 12.30pm we ate lunch. Today completed our teaching practice. But coming 3 days also we will come in this school. At 3.30 pm, bell was ringed. We went back to home.
